Hong Kong Travel Log: We went to the top of Victoria Peak to watch the sunset, went to Victoria Harbor to watch the light show, went to Stanley market and Ladies Market. Bought a coat in Mongkok (in preparation of the frigid Chinese winter that we'll meet next week). Rode the trolley, the bus, the MTR, taxis, ferries. Walked and walked and walked. Ate at Burger King 2x and McDonald's. The girls I'm visiting here were nice to order dinner for us all last night: cow organs, pig intestines, fatty beef, flesh and bone covered chicken, and oyster eggs all served with rice with soy sauce. It's a long story but I can't eat any of these things, I was once a vegetarian (til I was 8) and I have a rough time with meat..and plain carbs..and hate soy sauce. I laughed, then cried a little, then said a small prayer and forced a smile while gulping (no chewing) throughout dinner. I miss Thailand: curry(red, green, yellow, paneng, massaman). pad thai. mango sticky rice. pineapple. massages. sunshine. beaches. cheap CHEAP markets. elephant riding. buddhist temples. people that speak english. If I was to re-do this whole trip, I would change just one thing: I would have done China first and ended in Thailand/Singapore. Do you know how bad it sucks to leave the winter of Taiwan to enter the beautiful sun in Thailand and then enter an even colder winter in China? Bad planning on our part. Tomorrow we will do baptisms for the dead at the HK Temple, visit the 'high five' buddha, ride a tram and maybe even go for a hike. More info and pictures to come. I hope everyone is doing well.
