Earth Day 2009

In honor of Earth Day yesterday, I ran the eight mile trek home from my office. On my journey, I stopped to visit my favorite president, Mr. Thomas Jefferson. This quote from the monument has been on mind since so I'd like to share it with you:

"I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and constitutions, but laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors."

Mr. TJ was so wise and this quote is timeless! It made me reflect on current challenges that our government faces with evolving policies (i.e. marriage, stem cells, and other complex debates). As much as people hate change, it is inevitable. I can always count on Mr. Jefferson to put much needed clarity to my thoughts, it helped me enjoy the LONG journey home last night.

I think you may have clarified my parkstrip issue for me. Thank you. I have been uneasy about it for a long time. Love the quote and TJ!

Ermm... I don't understand what his quote means. With all my vocabulary knowledge and being an enjoyer of fancy words, it's just not working out for me. Perhaps you can translate it into Trinish.
