Taiwan braces for Typhoon Morakot

Today I'm sitting inside due to school being canceled in anticipation of Typhoon Morakot.  It's been raining hard for a few days and the wind has been howling for 24 hours, the storm should pass in the next 12-24 hours.  I wish I could take a decent video but there isn't much to see from my apartment windows and I'm too scared to go outside for fear I'll blow away!  I live in a 3 level apt. in a large complex and some of my neighbors windows have fallen several stories to the ground..that's about as exciting as this storm has been so far!  No worries mom, I loaded up on TP, H2O, ramen, pringles and candy so I should be set for a few days!

Here is a picture of how I felt coming home from work last night.  Except make it me on a bicycle, barefoot (didn't wanna ruin my leather sandals) in the dark, surrounded by wild dogs, trucks, buses and GIGANTIC puddles.  And this guy thinks he has it rough?!

Is it illegal to copy/paste web info onto blogs?  If so, I found the following info here and here.
Taiwan has closed schools and offices and cancelled flights as the strongest typhoon of the year nears the island.

Typhoon Morakot is expected to pass directly over the capital, Taipei, with winds of about 90mph and heavy rainfall (20 inches has already fallen), meteorologists said.

Thousands of people have already been evacuated from their homes in China, where Morakot is expected to make landfall on Saturday.  Some minor landslides have been reported in the north of the island and power has been cut to about 25,000 households.

Taiwan roughly faces seven kinds of typhoon tracks. Most typhoons strike from the pacific ocean (east coast). When a typhoon lands and hovers over Taiwan Central Mountain Range, its track is usually diverted and the wind speed gets slow.  I live in area 3 on the north west coast so I'm mostly safe but this is a nasty storm brewing.

So there isn't this much rain..yet.  The typhoon hasn't hit down so maybe it'll get this crazy!

Found this picture on the internet, thought it was appropriate.  Umbrellas are useless here, the rain comes in sideways and from the ground up! (thanks for the Forest Gump quote Joe)

BRING IT ON Morakot!  I have nothing better to do than watch movies and read all day!

I hope the rainy, closed-in day for you provides nothing more than a day off and day inside! That's scary to think about the places you've been seeing recently being hit by such a large typhoon. SO SCARY!

Tabbi just because there is a typhoon doesn't mean that you need to punish yourself by reading.

Tabs,
It's great to see pics. Good memories. WE have been to all those places, keep traveling. We had crazy typhoon rain too. HOpe you stay safe. Good job for stocking up on the essentials.
